Ask the Expert: Louise Brooks of Brooks Photography

Louise Brooks took over the well-known studio of Brooks photography in 2004 and has since built a reputation of her own-specialising in weddings and portraiture. Brides of Limerick have had the pleasure of working with Louise Brooks on several weddings, and we managed to catch up with her despite a busy schedule to ask her some questions about all aspects of the business.

How important is it for couples to be comfortable while getting professional photographs?
All the best lighting & beautiful locations will pale into insignificance if the couple look uncomfortable or the smiles appear forced or contrived. It is the most important aspect for me when photographing people to get expressions that are both flattering and natural.

What advice would you give to brides/grooms who hate getting their photograph taken?
Like anything, a little practice can make all the difference!  We include a pre wedding shoot to all our couples with the aim of running through a few tips on posing etc. that make all the difference to how they look in their photographs. Some folk maybe more sensitive to flash and there are options around that which we can work on in advance of the day etc. I also highly recommend booking professional hair and make-up people that are familiar with working weddings and are familiar with the best products so you photograph looking your best.

What should couples take into consideration when booking their wedding photographer?
Aside from choosing a photographers style that appeals to you, it is also important to remember on the day you will be spending quite a lot of time with this person too! Every wedding is unique to that couple and it is taking the time to understand what is Special to them that allows me to best capture their day- in the way they have envisaged. I have been referred to as the friend at the wedding that was handy with the camera! I see that as a great compliment and always work as unobtrusively as possible.   It is also important to ask a few questions such as, have they back up equipment, do they have an assistant, have they shot many weddings, are they insured.
