Bridal makeup guide with Claire Treacy Make Up Artist

Categories Features

Hi Claire, tell us a bit about yourself and what you do:

I am a qualified beautician and makeup artist from Limerick.
I qualified six years ago and worked in a 5* spa for three years doing makeup
for all the weddings there along with other beauty treatments. I then decided I
wanted more experience on a makeup counter, I was lucky enough to get a job
with one of my favourite brands (Urban Decay) and worked there for two years.
Then I made the big move and opened my own makeup studio and it’s the best
thing I have ever done.

What advice would you
give brides when choosing the type of makeup they’ll wear on their wedding day?

Do what makes you comfortable. If on a daily basis you don’t
wear a lot of makeup, keep it simple. If you love wearing makeup then go for
it, the more glitter the better. Just make sure you are 100% happy. You will be
looking back on pictures for years to come.

How soon before the
wedding day should a bride trial her makeup with you?

I think three months is plenty, you don’t want it too early
as styles change all the time but you don’t want to leave it too late either in
case you aren’t happy.

What trends are you
seeing for bridal makeup for the winter months?

I think brides are definitely going bolder with their
makeup. And I love that. But the most popular trend for a winter wedding is a
red or burgundy lip.

What are the
essentials a bride should keep on stand- by on her wedding day?

The lipstick that the makeup artist used on her. Make sure
to find out the name so you can buy it for the day. A setting powder in case of
shine. It is a long day/night and a mini setting spray to cool you down and
bring your makeup back to life too.

What’s your favourite
thing about doing bridal makeup?

Seeing the family’s reaction when the bride is done. It’s
always so nice. And when you have a fun bridal party you leave smiling and
excited for them.
