Anne-Marie Jones and Tommy O’Brien are both Irish natives but it was on the other side of the world that the pair first met. They met in Perth, Australia, in 2012 while Anne-Marie was travelling with friends and Tommy had arrived there to work a few months prior. “Tommy was gigging in the bar we were in and we were introduced, and the rest is history,” Anne-Marie recalls.  Although neither of them had plans of staying long-term in Australia, Perth fast became home for the couple and they still live there to date. In 2015, Tommy popped the question on Cable Beach in Western Australia, and the couple quickly decided to return to Ireland for their wedding, with a ceremony in Sacred Heart Church in Scariff and the reception at the Lakeside Hotel, Co. Clare.

Memorable moments

Anne-Marie recalls the weather as a massive plus, as there had been a couple of days of heavy rain leading up to the big but thankfully the sun was shining throughout the wedding. Anne-Marie also notes walking up the aisle as a moment that will stay with her forever. “Seeing everyone I know from all over the world in my local church where I made my communion and confirmation was just so surreal,” she remembers. The couple also treasures their unique arrival via boat to their reception, courtesy of Killaloe River Cruises. Tommy also planned a firework display which was surprise for all of the guests. “The fireworks display was unforgettable and it was a perfect night for it,” he says.

Personal touches

The couple believe that their family and loved ones’ involvement in their day was paramount to their wedding’s success. The wedding cake was made by Tommy’s grandmother and sister-in-law, while close friends provided vocals and music throughout the ceremony. A friend of the couple was also the talent behind the invitations, ceremony booklets and guest book. “Having friends involved for both of us made the day all the more special. You never forget the people who played important roles on the biggest day of your life and it’s truly the greatest gift,” Anne-Marie reveals.

How was your experience with Lakeside Hotel?

“The staff at the Lakeside Hotel are incredible and we are so glad we chose it as our venue. We cannot put into words how grateful we were Catherine Lewis, our wedding co-ordinator, and the rest of the team at the Lakeside. The personal touches and the staff’s investment in the day is what makes the venue so special. They made everything stress-free and nothing was too much trouble. The Lakeside have their own jetty as well and arriving by boat to the reception was just brilliant. We had guests from all over the world who just loved the place. I can’t recommend it enough.”
