Sparks flew on a night out for Mungret natives Mary-Ellen O’Sullivan and Alan O Dwyer, who had known each other for quite some time before falling in love. The newlyweds have two beautiful children, Greg (12) and Ben (5), who played a vital role in Alan’s proposal plan.

“We were on our family holiday to Lanzarote. Alan had been acting strange all day and seemed a bit distracted. He asked us to go for an early dinner and then a walk to the pier near our hotel. We went out for dinner and a walk for what seemed like forever to get to this pier. As I walked ahead of Alan and the two boys he started to talk about how nice the view was and when I turned around he was down on one knee and with the help of our two boys he asked me to marry him”, the blushing bride recalls.

A wedding date was soon set for July 13, 2017 with AnnaCarriga, Killaloe chosen as the perfect venue for the big day. A dream team of a bridal party was also selected and included bridesmaid and flowergirl Sarah and Tia Normoyle. The couple’s son’s Greg was best man, Ben was pageboy and Melyvn Shire was groomsman.

We had looked at numerous venues but the minute we got out of the car at AnnaCarriga and meet Jana and her team we knew it was the place of us. We wanted to keep the ceremony very personal and unique to our family. Including our children was one of the most important things for us. The venue was just spectacular and the team at AnnaCarriga where just amazing. I didn’t have to worry about a thing. The food was just superb and all my guests commented how wonderful the setting, food and service was.

Ivy-Rose Wedding Décor, Adare “This was truly a last-minute decision. I had seen them on Facebook and my lord was I glad I did it. I didn’t want too many items to take away from my view but Helen and Sarah from Ivy-Rose couldn’t have been more helpful, patient and kind. If you need a lot or just a little like me the girls are wonderful. They really used the venue well and went above and beyond with designing a display of blankets to make sure my guests didn’t get cold out by the lake.

What can I say about Noelle. Noelle is a friend of mine and was a guest at the wedding but sacrificed her time to help me. I even added in an extra person at the last minute and see didn’t even bat an eyelid. She really listened to what I wanted for my wedding day and how I wanted the bridal party to look

Memorable moments

“We invited all our family and close friends for dinner at the Boat House restaurant in Annacarriga the night before the wedding and it truly was so special and relaxing. The team at the boathouse couldn’t have done any more for us and the food was fabulous. Also, during the ceremony our little five-year-old started to cry because he was so happy,” Mary- Ellen gushed.
