Founder of and Richard Lynch first met Latvia native Hugo Dahn in Dublin, where Hugo lived at the time. “It was almost seven years ago when I met Hugo at Dublin Pride on a dance floor. We were in love at first sight”, Richard shared.  Several years later, Hugo moved to Limerick to live with Richard and their relationship has grown from strength to strength ever since. The couple selected August 30, 2018 as their wedding day as this would have been Richard’s parents 60th wedding anniversary. With a stunning view of the city, Richard and Hugo decided that the Limerick Strand Hotel would be the perfect location for their special day.

Memorable moments

On their special day, Richard and Hugo were joined with guests from all over the world, from New York to Latvia. Hugo walked down the aisle alongside his mother Maija, who held the honour of giving him away to Richard. For their first dance, the pair selected a mash-up of their two favourite Kylie Minogue songs ‘Flower’ and ‘All the lovers’. The celebrations continued into the early hours of the morning with a DJ and a silent disco. “I married the man I love and feel so blessed and fortunate. It’s a dream come true. I am crazy in love,” declared Richard.

As a strong figure in Limerick’s LGBT community Richard noted how grateful he was to be able to get married to his true love.  “We are the lucky ones. Marriage Equality may have been passed in Ireland but others in the global LGBT community are not as fortunate. Everyone deserves to have the chance to marry the person they love,” Richard said.

Personal touches

Continuing the sentimental dedication to his late parents Eric and Florence, Richard moved his guests to tears when he screened an eight-minute documentary focusing on their love story. The couple’s wedding music selection also featured several of their favourite songs to ensure that their special day’s playlist was personal to them. They also incorporated a blessing of the guests into their ceremony, using water from the River Shannon.

How was your experience with the Limerick Strand Hotel?

“I cannot say enough nice things about the Limerick Strand Hotel. Claireann McKeown, the Marketing Manager, and Stephen O’Connor, the General Manager did everything they could to ensure that we were happy. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. Executive Chef Tom Flavin made the most amazing food and he made me a special menu as I have very specific dietary requirements. Hugo and I wanted to be able to see a view of my beloved Limerick for the wedding and the rooftop of the Strand achieved this perfectly. Our bedroom suite was fit for a king. It was huge. I love the Limerick Strand Hotel and I am very grateful for all they did to make our wedding day so special.”
