Love is in the air; an age-old phrase but one that certainly rings true for high-flying couple Sinéad Powell and Noel Houlihan, who both work in aviation in Dublin. Sinéad, from Donaghmore, Co. Limerick, met Noel, originally from Tipperary Town, when they both began working for the same airline and on June 3, 2016 the happy couple tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Co. Clare.
THE PROPOSAL
Working in aviation has its benefits. Noel managed to convince Sinéad to come with him on what was supposed to be a “work trip” to Finland, where he popped the question in a winter wonderland. The couple flew to the Arctic Circle, where they stayed in a glass igloo village in Kakslauttanen. On the second night, the pair bundled up for a night-time sleigh ride through the forest under the glorious Northern Lights and Noel proposed with a family ring – having been sure to ask Sinéad’s father for permission, first. A delighted Sinéad was quick to say “yes!”, and the couple then flew to Antwerp where they designed Sinéad’s white gold emerald-cut engagement ring from scratch.
THE DETAILS
The ceremony took place in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Quilty, Co. Clare, with celebrations following at stunning The Falls Hotel, Ennistymon, where 150 guests gathered to cheer the newlyweds on. The talented Olga from Mrs Redhead Photography was there to capture all the best bits of the day on camera.
Having designed her own engagement ring, Sinéad worked with Mary Frost of Mathew Stephens Jewellers in Limerick to create a wedding band to match. The couple also chose Noel’s brushed platinum ring here, and the gentlemen of the bridal party stayed local by sourcing their suits from Esquires in Limerick.
Sinéad found a stunning Pronovias wedding dress in De Stafford Bridal in Nenagh and she oozed elegance on her wedding day.
THE BIG DAY
The final touches before “I do” began, as they always do, with an extra-special bridal beauty blitz. Sinéad’s make-up was done beautifully by Susan Fox, while the finishing touches were put to her wedding-day style by Siobhán’s Hair Salon in Corbally.
Sinéad walked up the aisle to “Story Book Love”, with her fabulous bridesmaids (sister Orla and best friend Harriet) looking radiant in mint green Jenny Packham. “Seeing Sinéad for the first time was one of the most special moments of the entire day,” says Noel, who waited at the top of the aisle flanked by groomsmen Tim and Sam, along with nephew Ricky, who acted as usher on the day.
Following kisses and congratulations outside the church, it was on to The Falls Hotel, where all the celebrations kicked off. As the speeches were set to begin, this fun-loving duo had another surprise in store, as Noel and some carefully planted accomplices led a playful aircraft safety demonstration to ensure wedding guest safety throughout the evening. All of the shenanigans were recorded for posterity by videographer Declan Gleeson of SES Digital, who made sure that the bride and groom wouldn’t forget a moment of their special day.
HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH THE FALLS HOTEL?
“From the moment we saw The Falls, we fell in love with the hotel and its charm. We were treated so well and we never felt that we were just another wedding. Michael, Patrick and the team pulled out all the stops and catered for our every need. One of our friends had to stay in their hotel room as their daughter wasn’t settling and the team at The Falls brought the wedding meal to the room. This wasn’t requested, and it’s just one example of how the staff went above and beyond for us.”  www.thefallshotel.com
HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH OLGA FROM MRS REDHEAD PHOTOGRAPHY
â€œWorking with Olga can only be described as great fun! Her style was relaxed and informal – nothing was a problem. We’ve never laughed so much as we did with Olga, especially when it came to the ‘Trash the Dress’ shoot! She encouraged our fun and wild side and as a result, we got amazing photos and memories that are still a talking point amongst our families and friends.” www.mrsredhead-foto.com
