Niamh Nicholas and Alex Zimmerman began their journey as friends when they met while travelling, but fate had different plans for the two globetrotters.

“We meet in South Korea in 2009 where we were both teaching English. We were best friends for two years before we became a couple in 2011. I was in a bad road accident and ended up in a wheelchair in hospital there for a few weeks. Alex helped get me back on my feet (literally). After that I knew he was the one,” Niamh fondly remembers.

The couple have been residing in Alex’s home country of Canada for the past four years but will be moving to Ireland in the New Year. However, Alex had been planning his future with Niamh long before talk of the move and planned the perfect proposal to his Limerick lady. He popped the question the day after her birthday.

“We were at his home house and I was tired from the party he threw me the night before, but he persuaded me to go for a walk with the dogs. I had no idea what was about to happen! His parents’ house is in the country so there is lots of land around. We stopped in the middle of one field watching the dogs run around and he told me to put my hands in his pockets to keep them warm. When I did, I felt the ring box and before I knew it he was down on one knee. It was perfect. So simple and lovely, just the two of us outside on a walk in a place that we love”, the blushing bride said.

Niamh and Alex knew they would return to Ireland to tie the knot and found the perfect location at the stunning Ashley Park House, Tipperary to hold their outdoor ceremony and reception. A date was set for August 26, 2017 and 120 of the couples’ favourite people from around the world made tracks to join them on their wedding day.

Also joining them on their dream day was their bridal party including bridesmaids Marie Lovell, Mairead Skerritt, Josephine Burke, Stephanie Keane, Sarah Thomas and flower girl Arielle Zimmerman. The groom gang was made up of Mitch Leger, Marc Sayer, Kyle Compeau, Jordan Allen, Conor Rafferty and Diarmuid and Cormac Lovell as page boys.

Jimmy is a professional and an absolute gentleman. He truly wants the bride and groom to have the best night of their lives. He puts on a fantastic set and is very accommodating also. Every song was hit after hit! Jimmy was one of the best decisions we made with our wedding. We can’t recommend him highly enough.

Ashley Park is an absolute gem of a venue. The grounds are stunning with peacocks roaming around on the lake front. The food was 5 star, as was the service. The personal touches that Margaret puts in the marquee are exquisite. Her attention to detail is next to none. The centrepieces are included in the package and they are so beautiful and unique. It was our dream venue.”
