Fairy tales don’t always have a cliché ‘love at first sight’ beginning, as was the case with Karen Keehan and Clodagh Dunworth, who originally met while playing against each other on the soccer pitch.

“We knew each other for years through sport, we were arch rivals on the field. It was so bad that we wouldn’t even acknowledge each other after games. Clo even broke my shin during one game”, Karen recalls.

However, feelings from the past were forgotten when Karen spotted Clodagh playing in a Limerick final and there was an instant attraction between the two sport lovers. The two beautiful Limerick ladies became an item and an engagement was soon in the works, with a proposal from Karen coming as a total surprise to Clodagh. Karen had spent time planning the perfect opportunity to ask the question, and a ski trip with family was the ideal time to pop the question.

“For months I thought about how it would go and what I would say. I picked a spot on the mountain and decided I would stop there after lunch and let the others go on without us. I got really nervous which surprised me but it all worked out perfectly. Clo wasn’t quite sure what I was babbling on about until I produced the ring”, Karen shares.

A SPECIAL VENUE

Having the perfect venue to spend time with their families and friends whilst enjoying a stunning view was the criteria for the ladies’ venue choosing and AnnaCarriga fit the bill.

“We had an outdoor ceremony and reception by the lake under the stretch canopy at AnnaCarriga Estate. We rented houses on site from the night before for both our families so everyone was together. Clo and I spent the morning of the wedding together until it was time to get into our dresses” Karen said.

Magical Music

“When we got engaged, Pauline was the first person we booked for our wedding. On the day Pauline was even ‘better than the real thing’, her versions of some of our favourite songs were beyond incredible, our family and friends are still talking about the music in our ceremony, one of the best memories throughout the ceremony is hearing our family and friends singing along with Pauline behind us, it was so special. I can’t recommend Pauline enough, accompanied by Mike Galvin on guitar, they are truly an incredible talent.”- Karen FB @PaulineHartigan

Clodagh’s mother Margaret made both of the brides’ wedding dresses, something that Clodagh had wanted since she was a child. “Growing up watching her drawing out, designing and putting the final touches to a wedding dress was incredible to watch. So, when the ‘Yes’ vote happened, I knew that my mam was going to make both of our dreams come true by making my wedding dress for one of the best days of my life. We did not see each other’s dress until the day, even though they were hanging side by side for months!”, Clodagh shared.

SPECIAL MOMENTS

For Karen

“Clo surprised me at the end of the ceremony by singing ‘Caravan of Love’ by The House martins. I love that song, she was then joined in flash mob style by her all her family and friends. It really caught me off guard. Also I lost my only brother a few years ago so having his daughter Kaya as one of my bridesmaids was very special, she really played a starring role all day.”

For Clodagh

“Karen loves all things nautical, she’s obsessed with boats. Karen’s cousin Gillian and her husband Eoin took us out on the lake on his family cruiser after the reception. It was so much fun, the lads had balloons, banners and prosecco on board for us. We climbed up onto the bow of the boat and I lost my veil. It was hilarious!”

HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH ANNACARRIGA KILLALOE?

“We attended a wedding in AnnaCarriga in June 2016. We both fell in love with the venue and knew maybe someday we’d get married here. Due to the weather the day before it was decided that the ceremony would take place under the stretch canopy, right next to the marquee and the staff worked for hours on making the surface perfect. Jana, Michelle and the team couldn’t have been more helpful. AnnaCarrige Estate is a place where magic happens, the views are stunning, the staff are fabulous, the food was simply amazing.”
