Airi Vilu, originally from Estonia, and Limerick native Robert Gardiner tied the knot on August 31, 2019 with both the ceremony and reception taking place in The Lakeside Hotel in Killaloe.
Airi, who has been living in Ireland for the last 20 years, first met Robert through mutual friends in 2008. The pair were dating for eight years before Robert popped the question during a holiday in Santorini, Crete in 2016. Of course, Airi said yes and the pair opted for an intimate humanist ceremony and stunning reception in Killaloe, Co. Clare.
Both the bride and groom recall Airi walking down the aisle as their most memorable moment from the day. “Walking down the aisle with my brother and seeing my future husband standing their nervously was a very emotional moment,” Airi reveals.
Unique additions to the wedding included singing waiters from Cork. “They were absolutely brilliant. The guests loved it and it got everyone on their feet,” Airi shares. The couple also share praise for comedian Frank Forde who was a “hilarious” addition to their day.
Airi and Robert have since enjoyed a romantic honeymoon to New York and Cyprus.
Their advice for planning your wedding day? “Always book your main things in advance to avoid disappointment. Enjoy the build-up to the wedding and all the little things such as going dress shopping and meal tasting. Take your family and friends with you to these things and make a day of it, you’re not going to get a chance to do it again.”
“The Lakeside Hotel was the only hotel we wanted to get married in, we never viewed any other. The location, scenery, food and staff were incredible, especially our wedding coordinator Catherine Lewis. She was so helpful, patient and welcoming. It is the best location for a wedding.”
“Tony Clancy was absolutely amazing. He went out of his way to ensure we were happy with everything. He is a truly talented and professional photographer. We got so many amazing photos under his direction.”
