Emma Rolls first met David Nicholas in maths class at secondary school in the Castletroy College and quickly realised how much they had in common. After a year, David finally put two and two together and the pair began their thirteen years (and counting) together. The Annacotty native proposed to his soulmate in a stunning New York City hotel overlooking Time Square during a trip there for Emma’s birthday.

“Dave planned on proposing after dinner but when we arrived at the hotel, the lady was setting up the room for the proposal. There were rose petals all over the floor and bed and a bottle of champagne on the table. I thought it was just a nice touch from the hotel but when I turned around, Dave was on one knee about to propose while searching for the ring as he was caught off guard. We still laugh about it as the lady in the hotel was trying to sneak out of the room while he was proposing, he didn’t wait until she left – he panicked when it didn’t go to plan,” the bride says of her proposal.

A wedding date was set for July 28, 2017 with a ceremony at Monaleen Church followed by a beautiful reception at The Castle Oaks House Hotel.

The bride guide on getting organised

“Recommendations are the best way to plan your wedding! I would say to book your suppliers ASAP as they get booked up very far in advance. I would recommend seeing your band at a showcase as you want to make sure they will keep the dancefloor full for the night. Don’t sweat the small stuff, it all comes together on the day,” Emma advises.

Liam Barrett, the General Manager of the Castle Oaks House Hotel was a massive help and support to us. We cannot thank him enough for the advice and reassurance from start to finish. The team at the Castle Oaks are first class and we cannot recommend them enough. The grounds of the hotel are stunning and the food is amazing. We are delighted we had our wedding day there and wouldn’t have changed a single thing.

Diarmuid was like part of the family as soon as he arrived. He was never in our way, I barely noticed he was there and not much gets passed me! We loved the drone equipment he had as it added an extra special touch to the day. Diarmuid brought our pictures over to our house a few weeks after the wedding and we watched the video compilation of the pictures together – we made him sit through it twice as we watched it over and over as we love it so much. We are delighted we had Diarmuid as our photographer on our special day and cannot thank him enough for the care and attention he gave us.
